About Me.

Sky Hooler

Sky is a hydrologist and paleolimnologist passionate about understanding how our environment responds to both long-term and short-term human stress. She uses geochemistry, hydrological surveys, and ecosystem modeling to investigate long-term changes in freshwater ecosystems.

Her research questions ask whether ecosystems have crossed cricital tipping points into new states, or if they are capable of resilience and recovery. Her work focuses on freshwater aquatic systems impacted by various stressor such as acid rain, land use disturbance, industrial pollution, and climate change. Using historical records preserved in sediment cores she works to reconstruct long term pollution and ecological shifts.

But science doesn’t end in the lab. She is equally dedicated to public outreach, education, and policy engagement. Whether it’s organizing community education programs, mentoring students, or teaching, she aims to make science accessible and impactful to the public.
